Market oriented agriculture potentially presents diverse opportunities available to young people to find dignified and fulfilling work in Uganda. The Markets for Youth Program is working to explore those opportunities through collaboration with Private Sector Actors (PSAs).
In the area of agriculture mechanisation, KRC supported youth groups in Hoima have been trained in tractor driving and maintenance to meet the growing uptake of agricultural mechanisation in the region. These skills are also non-existent among the youth, therefore skilling them is one way to stimulate the supply of competent labour required in the agricultural sector.
The youth were trained by Shalom Ventures, one of the leading suppliers of traction services, tractor spare parts, advisory services, farm implements and training services in Uganda.
Upon completion of the training, the youth were awarded certificates and commissioned to venture out and utilise the skills they have acquired.
